Care & Usage
Proper care, installation & usage practices for Emery Stones to ensure safe operation, better performance and Longer Service Life.
Necessary steps for the Optimum utilization of Emery Stones
- Check the grinding surface face of both stones properly before fitting into the flour mill.
- To fit the Fix stone, check the depth of the fix anchoring holes, so that you can fix the bolt according to the correct depth. This will prevent the plates and guniya (anchoring studs) coming out of the stone.
- While fixing the Runner Stone with the shaft, do not let the plates be damaged by striking stones with a hammer. Fit the shaft carefully and cautiously, without throwing it on the ground or striking it with any hard tool. Secure the stone to the counter of the shaft properly with shafting bolts. Now let the shaft pass through the hole of the runner stone, and be sure that it is in correct position
- Do not grind the stones, without feeding anything into the mill. If you do so, the face of the stones gets damaged due to overheating.
- Never run stones empty after fitting them in the flour mill. Use either dry sand or rice husk for setting & leveling of the stones.

Critical Do's and Don'ts for Optimum Emery Stone Use
OPTIMUM DO'S
(Checklist & Best Practices)
- Always regularly redress the stones and clean the mill from inside, suggested at least once a week.
- Use high quality ball bearings in your mill. All our mills are supplied with original SKF/NBC bearings.
- Whenever switching off the mill after grinding, let the mill run empty for 5 minutes after increasing the distance between stones and opening the thrust for good ventilation.
- Use only original high quality SHIKHAR brand stones for premium quality output.
- Regularly grease the bearings and check shaft alignment for optimum grinding experience.
CRITICAL DON'TS
(What to Avoid)
- Do not use water for setting new stones as it makes the stones weak. Use only dry filtered sand or rice husk.
- Never grind any wet or oily items in the mill as it weakens the bonding of the stones.
- Do not alter the designs, grooves or holes given by the manufacturing company as it may damage the stones.
- Never leave the stones out in moisture or wet floor as it can absorb water and get damaged.
- Do not take out the stone when it is hot after continuous grinding as the temperature change can develop cracks in it.
- Never let the stones rub against each other without any item being grinded in between as the stone may overheat.
